Day 1
Depart your gateway for the overnight flight to Frankfurt, Germany.
Day 2
Frankfurt Upon arrival in Frankfurt meet with our friendly representative
who will escort you to your waiting motorcoach for transfer to your hotel in
Ansbach (Southwest of Nurnberg).
Day 3
Ansbach Today we begin with our programme briefing for conductors and group
leaders followed by a rehearsal. Reception by the local mayor is followed by
introductions to the public and opening concerts. Concerts are non-competitive.
Day 4
Ansbach We present a morning concert in town and meet host families (for groups
with homestays or free time for sightseeing in the afternoon for groups staying
in hotels).
Day 5
Ansbach Musical integration into local church service is facilitated
followed by a joint concert of all participating groups. Afterwards we have the
opportunity to meet other conductors, band and choir leaders. What a great way
to meet other musicians from around the world. The fun continues with an
International Youth Meeting Bavarian Style, barbecue with Bavarian food and
Bavarian folklore.
**We continue our tour to sights of interest in Germany, Austria and
Switzerland. A sample itinerary is included.
Day 6
Depart south to Rudesheim, Germany. Rudesheim is famous for its wine growing
tradition. We walk through the half-timbered village and we can hke up to the
Niederwald memorial. We have beautiful views of the Rhine Valley. Nearby is the
Music Museum that is a fascinating look at music through the ages.
Day 7
Our tour continues to Heidelberg. Untouched by war Heidelberg personifies German
culture. The town, castle and university rise from the banks of the Neckar
River. The castle ruins are fascinating and the views from the "Kings
Seat" are lovely. We see Germany’s oldest university, Palatine Museum and
we will visit Minster Square and the medieval Kaufhas with its stepped gabled
facades adorned with figures of the Knights of Hapsburg. We could add a day here
with a visit to Frieburg.
Day 8
Cross the border into Switzerland to arrive in Lucerne via the Black Forest.
Lucerne is situated at the foot of Lake Lucerne. See the 16th century
Cathedral the famous Chapel Bridge, Kapellbrucke, and the Hirschenplatz.
Day 9
Today we enjoy an excursion to Engelberg near Mt Titlis. Here we find a
Benedictine Abbey. Travel via Schauffhausen and the Rhine falls to Lake
Constance and Lindau. Lindau was originally a fishing village situated on the
island of Lindau. The name originates from the monastery Unserer Lieben Frau
which was constructed in the 9th century.
Day 10
We stand in awe before Neuschwanstein Castle which was made famous to North
Americans by Walt Disney. The structure was constructed by Ludwig the Second in
honor of the famous composer Richard Wagner. Ludwig spent only 10 nights in his
castle and died before it was completely finished. Stay in
Garmisch-Partenkirchen, a lively town at the foot of Germany’s highest
mountain. Enjoy an optional cable car ride to the summit to the Zugspite.
Overnight Lindau area.
Days 11-12
Continue to Munich, heart and capital of Bavaria, for 1 or 2 nights. From our
base we shall venture out to the Bavarian Motor Works, massive Deustches Museum
and Nymphenberg Castle. A visit to Dachau Concentration camp is a sobering
educational experience. A special Hofbrauhaus dinner is included on day 12.
Day 13
Depart from Munich International Airport or Continue via the
"Romantic Road" to Rothenburg, one of the finest medieval towns in
Germany. It seems little changed since the 16th century. The town
prospered during the Middle Ages but suffered greatly during the thirty years
war. Continue on the Wurzburg for our last night in Germany.
Day 14
Depart for Frankfurt or Munich International Airport
Optionally
add two days (after day 12), where we can visit a quaint alpine village for 2
nights with time for hiking and exploring the Alps.
