Day 1
We arrange the overnight flight to Paris from your gateway.
Day 2
Bonjour. Our friendly guide will meet us at the airport and transfer us to our
hotel. Check in with time to relax before stepping out this evening for a stroll
in the "City of Lights".
Day 3
Paris. Today we visit Notre Dame Cathedral and the Pantheon as well as the
Bastille. We visit the Eiffel Tower, Les Invalides and the Church of St. Louis
where the great Napoleon is buried. See the Arc de Triomphe, and Napoleons' home
away from Paris, Fontainbleu.
Day 4
Our journey brings us to the fantastic Louvre. See Mona Lisa's smile, the Venus
de Milo, the Egyptian Room, Winged Victory and countless other priceless
artifacts. We shall also stroll the Tuileries Garden which open up to the Place
de la Concorde. Nearby is the Royal Palace and Hotel de Ville (is this a
hotel?).
Day 5
Paris. Today we venture onto the Palace of Versailles. Admire its hundreds of
fountains and beautiful gardens. This is one of Europe’s architectural
masterpieces. Built by Louis the XIV it is considered the most opulent set of
buildings ever constructed.
Day 6
Paris-Nice. A short flight to the French Riviera (we can also arrange overnight
train to Nice which arrives early morning or Eurostar). Nice was founded in 350
BC. and named after the Greek God Nikea. Stroll the Promenade des Anglais in
Nice amidst palm trees and flowerbeds. Spend some time in Vieille Ville (the Old
Town) and climb to the Castle at the top for amazing views of the city and
Mediterranean. Nearby are famous prehistoric caves we shall explore.
Day 7
Monte Carlo will be our destination for today. A pleasant train ride
whisks us to this charming city. See the changing of the guard, the Casino, old
Castle and the famous Jacques Cousteau Oceanographique Museum. See giant whale
skeletons and amazing tanks of fish from around the world.
Day 8
We shall visit a perfume factory, where we can find some true bargains on name
brand fragrances. Take an optional visit to Avignon, Cannes, San Remo, which is
just a few miles from the Italian border or Genoa in Italy. Southern France has
so much beauty to share.
Day 9
Today is free for shopping, strolling and soaking up the rays of the French
Riviera. We can arrange a visit to Nimes (60 miles northwest of Marseilles)
where we find the greatest of all Roman ruins in France. They include the arena
and the Temple of Diana. The Maison Caree is a Corinthian style temple from
which Thomas Jefferson took his design for the building of the State Capitol of
Virgina. Nearby is the great Pont du Gard a huge stone bridge built in 19 BC.
How about a visit to Marc Chagall Museum, Museum Massena or the Naval Museum?
Day 10 Depart
to Nice International airport for the flight home.
