Danube Cruise
Germany and Austria
An Amazing Educational River Cruise

Frankfurt – Wurzburg – Nuremberg – Regensburg - Passau – Melk – Vienna

Day 1  Begin our incredible journey with our overnight flight to Frankfurt, Germany.

Day 2  Our group is met at the airport and escorted to our cruise ship near Wurzburg. We have the remainder of the day to explore Wurzburg including its world famous Baroque Palace and Franconian Vineyards.

Day 3  Today we explore Bamberg. The old imperial town, built on seven hills, is filled with Baroque buildings. Attractions include Imperial Cathedral and Bamberger Reiter Sculptures, reliefs, and royal tombs. See Little Venice and its picturesque fishing villages, the Old Royal Palace and Michaelsberg Monastery.

Day 4  We transfer by deluxe motor coach to Nuremberg. In historic Nuremberg we see the Imperial Castle, City Wall, Durer’s House, Museum of Toys, the location of the Nuremberg Trials, Hitler’s Parade Grounds, the red sandstone Church of St. Lawrence and the Germanic National Museum. Board ship and the amazing voyage continues as we traverse the 16 stairstep locks that raise us 80 feet! This evening we enter the Altmuhl Valley by motor coach for a lively dinner with Germanic oom-pah-pah band.

Day 5  Up anchor and away into the waters of the Danube River! Enjoy a sumptuous lunch and then we tour ancient Regensburg (80 miles northeast of Munich). We’ll see the Scottish Church, Palace Niedermunster excavations, 12th century stone bridge and fine Patrician Residences.

Day 6  Our cruise ship delivers us past fortress castles, lush rolling hills and magnificent Blue Danube vistas. This afternoon we visit a very unique combination of the old and new worlds. Established at the intersection of three rivers, Passau is a model for intelligent city development. Here we find a Baroque Cathedral with the world’s largest church organ, Bishop’s Palace and two 13th and 14th century fortresses – Oberhaus and Niederhaus. Our cruise continues and during the night we cross the Austrian border.

Day 7  After breakfast our great journey delivers us to Melk and its renowned Abbey. Feast your senses on the art collection and magnificent ceilings. Our cruise continues through the gorgeous Wachau Valley. In Durnstein see the old burgher houses and the ruins of Kuenriger Castle. Hear the tales of how Richard the Lionhearted was held captive here.

Day 8  We cruise through stunning scenic wonders until we arrive in the capital of Austria. In Vienna we see St. Stephen’s Cathedral, and the Hofburg Palace. We have a little free time this afternoon for souvenir shopping. We can arrange an evening Strauss concert at an historic Viennese Palace. Wow!

Day 9  Enjoy a hearty breakfast and our tour of Vienna continues. Walk through Schonbrunn Palace. We won’t have time to visit all 1,400 rooms but we will see the most important of them. The Hapsburg empire ruled from here for an amazing six centuries. Witness the priceless crown jewels and the famous Spanish Riding School (Lippizaner Stallions) in the Hofburg. The clock and Watch Museum and the natural History Museums are fascinating. We may see the memorial sights for Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn, Strauss or Freud.

Day 10  Bid farewell to our crew and transfer to Vienna International Airport for the journey home.
