Southern Germany
7 Days in Bavaria and the
Black Forest
Frankfurt – Black Forest - Heidelberg -
Neuschwanstein – Lindau – Neuschwanstein - Zugspitze
Day 1
Depart from your gateway and begin our incredible journey.
Day 2
Overnight flight arrives in Germany at Frankfurt International Airport.
We travel south to Heidelberg by motor coach and step out this evening for a
walk. The ruins of Heidelberg’s rose tinted castle keep watch over this
romantic and charming city.
Day 3
Visit Germany's oldest university, its castle, and stroll the lively main
street past the impressive Renaissance mansion. This afternoon we drive into the
Black Forest. We will stop at a Cuckoo Clock factory in the Black Forest and end
up near Lindau, which was originally a fisherman's village constructed on an
island. Every year the Duke Bernadotte invites the "Nobel Prize"
winners for a conference in Lindau. Board our motor coach and travel via
Schaffhausen and the Rhine Falls to old Zurich, Switzerland (15 BC) for a short
stop. On to Lucerne. Here visit the Spreuerbrucke, a narrow, weathered covered
wooden bridge dating back to 1408. Also see the Hirschenplatz (stag-square), and
the wine market. Overnight Lindau area.
Day 4
Travel on to Garmisch and nearby Neuschwanstein Castle, made famous to
westerners by Walt Disney.
It was constructed by Ludwig II and was meant to be the setting for Wagner's
opera "The Ring of the Nibelungen". Ludwig never saw his castle
finished. Continue to Munich where we unpack for 3 nights.
Day 5
Munich. Originally founded by Benedictine Monks it is now the heart and capital
of Bavaria. We are surrounded by numerous historic buildings, theatres, museums
and galleries. Enter Dachau Concentration camp and see a tale of history that
should not be soon forgotten. Visit the Deutsche Museum, the largest technical
museum in the world, and Nymphenburg Castle. A very special Hofbrauhaus dinner
is included tonight. Find out why Munich is the number one tourist destination
in Germany today.
Day 6
Our motor coach carries us down another scenic road towards
Garmisch-Partenkirchen. We ride a cable car to the summit of Zugspitze,
Germany's highest peak. The views are breathtaking. We shall visit Oberammergau
and learn why it is packed with tourists from around the world, but only
sometimes.
Day 7
Motorcoach will pick up group and transfer the group to Frankfurt airport.
An interesting extension for
schools that have time (after Day 3) is to travel via coach to Schaffhausen and
the Rhine Falls to old Zurich, Switzerland (15 BC) for a short stop and then on
to Lucerne. Here we visit the Spreuerbrucke, a narrow, weathered covered, wooden
bridge dating back to 1408. Also see the Hirschenplatz (stag-square), and the
wine market. Overnight would be in Lucerne. This would add about $100USD to the
overall cost of the tour. Other one day extensions include Innsbruck or
Salzburg, Austria
