2 Island Study Tour -
Oahu
Kauai
The Gathering Place and the
oldest, the Garden Island
For
groups of 25 or more persons
Day 1
Flight from your gateway to Honolulu Hawaii. Aloha to paradise. Our motor coach
transfers us to Waikiki.
Day 2
We spend the day in and around the city of Honolulu. Visit Fort Derussy Park,
Honolulu zoo, International Marketplace with a walk on the famous Waikiki and
Kuhio Beaches.
Day 3
The adventure continues. We start by heading into the extinct crater that is the
landmark of Waikiki Beach, Diamond Head. We will see a side of this volcano that
few see, the INSIDE. We transfer across the interior of this long dormant
volcano and then hike the many switchbacks that lead to the top. The views are
breathtaking. The armed forces built bunkers for large gun emplacements when it
was feared Hawaii would be invaded in the Second World War. Our motor coach
touring delivers us to the Punch Bowl National Cemetery, and then Pearl Harbor.
See the WWII submarine Bowfin, the might battleship Missouri where the Second
World War ended and the USS Arizona Memorial.
Day 4
We meet our tour guide this morning as we board our deluxe A/C motor coach for a
circle island tour. Visit the blow hole, Sea life Park, and continue up the
windward side. See Chinaman’s Hat and then the North shore where the mammoth
waves create a surfers dream. Stop at Paradise Park or Sacred Falls and hike to
a waterfall for a refreshing swim. Pali lookout point is where hundreds of
Hawaiian warriors jumped to their deaths rather than be captured. Visit the
Honolulu business district, Chinatown, Iolani Palace and King Kamehameha’s
Statue. It is an incredible day.
Day 5
A short flight finds us on the Island that is called the Garden Island of Kauai.
Transfer to our hotel with a little time to relax. Transfer to the north shore
to the jumping off point of one of the world’s most famous hikes, the Na Pali
Coastal Trail. We will hike the trail to Hanakapiai. Cross the refreshing stream
and admire the amazing views of the velvet green cliffs that rise thousands of
feet to the sky. We will see this amazing sight once more from a great height
when we visit the islands interior. Return to hotel.
Day 6
Pack our bags and transfer to the north. Admire the coffee plantations where
Kona Coffee is grown. Perhaps we can pick a few of the red ripe berries.
Continue to the Blowhole where we may see whales in the ocean (winter months).
Climb Russian Fort, where the Russians had a major presence years ago. Why did
they come here? We’ll find out. We will feast our eyes on one of the Pacific’s
most stunning sights. Called the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, Waimea Canyon is
an amazing spectacle of colored rock, spires of stone and deep valleys. Continue
to our comfortable lodge in the islands interior.
Day 7 Kokee
State Park is home to incredible hiking opportunities including the Alakai
Improved Swamp hike, Awaawapuhili and Pihea Trail. From here we look down from
the top of the Na Pali Coast and see the hiking trails far below. The views are
breathtaking. We hike near to rainiest spot on Earth. It is amazing that this
sight feeds no less than 7 rivers. It is also amazing that a few miles in the
opposite direction is an area that is considered a desert because it gets so
little rain. Such are the micro-climates of the Hawaiian Islands. Return to our
comfortable lodge with kitchenettes, baths, fireplaces and restaurant nearby.
Day 8 Bid
Aloha to Lihue Airport for the short flight to Honolulu where we connect on our
homeward flight OR enjoy one more free day on the lush tropical island known as
Kauai.
