Umbria – Assisi – Torgiano – Maggiore Island – Perugia - Rome

Day 1  We arrange flight from your gateway to Rome Italy.

Day 2  Rome arrival. We are greeted by our friendly host and we depart north into the district of Umbria to our hotel or villa. Enjoy a walking tour in the warm Italian air this evening.

Day 3  After a sumptuous breakfast we visit a local market. In the morning we shop for fruit vegetables that will be prepared later. After lunch we are treated to hands-on cooking instruction from one of our renowned sous-chefs. Focus on the secrets of pasta types and sumptuous sauces featuring hand made noodles. Dinner is served at our hotel this evening with a slide show on Umbrian itineraries.

Day 4  We depart for the 13th century hilltop village of Assisi (42 kilometers). It is a photographer’s dream with winding medieval streets and magnificent vistas of the Italian countryside. Visit the Monastery, St. Claire’s Church and then transfer to Spell for a Trattoria lunch. Continue our cooking instruction at our hotel this afternoon with lessons in soups & stuffed pasta featuring Italian favorites, ravioli and canneloni.

Day 5  After another hearty breakfast we travel 25 kilometers to Torgiano to learn of wines at the Wine Museum of the Lungarotti Foundation. Lunch in Locanda di Compagna a typical country restaurant. A short drive will find us in a ceramic workshop in Deruta. Return to our hotel for dinner with free time in the evening.

Day 6  Our treat today is to visit scenic Maggiore Island and the fisherman’s village and fishmonger’s shop. We are instructed in how to purchase freshwater fish. Enjoy the views of beautiful Italian countryside on the way back to our hotel. This afternoon we become well versed in the art of preparing fish and other meat with seasonings and herbs. Dinner at hotel

Day 7  A cooking lesson with one of our knowledgeable chefs again this morning will teach us about vegetables, appetizers and hors d’oeurves. Check out of hotel and enjoy our last lunch at the hotel. Transfer to Perugia to visit the National Gallery with time for shopping for regional specialties. Continue to Rome for overnight. Step out this evening for a walking tour of Rome.

We’ll see an unbelievable example of the genius of Michelangelo. We pass a wall mural and Jesus Christ within the mural actually turns and faces us as we walk past! Absolutely amazing things await us in Sistine Chapel.

Day 9  Full day walking tours of Rome include the Roman Colosseum. We’ll see the Spanish Steps, Palazzo Venezia, Appian Way, Forum, Pantheon and much more. We’ll hear tales of the Pantheon and learn about the hole in the ceiling. There are also holes in the columns that support the structure . Something was removed and we’ll learn what and why.
