–
Kamakura –Hase - Kyoto
Day 1
Depart for Japan. The Japanese call their
country Nippon, which means source of the sun. Cross the international date line
and lose a day!! March through May are great months to visit as plum trees and
cherry trees are in full bloom. June may be quite rainy but the remainder of the
summer sees warm weather.
Day 2 Arrive
to Narita Airport and transfer to hotel in fast paced Tokyo.
Day 3
Our
morning motor coach tour will show us the Imperial East Garden, Imperial Palace
Plaza, Meiji Shrine (its red gate is built of cypress wood over 1,700 years
old), Asakusa Kannon Temple, and Ginza Street, renowned worldwide for amazing shopping
opportunities.
Day 4 Depart
for snow capped Mount Fuji, Japan’s highest mountain. Visit the Peace Pagoda
and the Golden Buddha. Hakone is a famous hotsprings area and 1300 year old
shrine. We set sail on a cruise of Lake Ashi. An aerial cableway delivers us up
to Mount Komagatake for breathtaking views. Return to Tokyo.
Day 5 Enjoy a
free day to wander through the streets of Tokyo (great views are available from
the Tokyo Tower). Shop the Akihabara district where you can find electronic
gadgets not available anywhere else in the world. It is an education all its
own!
Day 6 Travel
North to the natural gem that is Nikko (2 hours by rail from Tokyo). Here our
guide will lead us through the magnificent Toshogu Shrine with its famous Gate
of Sunlight. A 16 kilometer winding road leads to beautiful Kegon Falls which
spills 100m from Lake Chuzenji.
Day 7 Depart
by train for seaside Kamakura (1 hour from Tokyo) and walk through the Second
and Third Torri to Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine. It is here that the Yabusame
event occurs each September with mounted archers compete for prizes. Visit Hase
and take a walking tour of the Great Bronze Buddha and Hase Kannon Temple.
Return, by train, to Tokyo. Trains, and other modes of transportation in Japan,
are an incomparable learning experience on their own.
Day 8 Kyoto
is a must see in Japan. It was the capital city from the 794 until 1860, over a
thousand years! Travel by Bullet Train. Upon arrival check into our hotel then
visit Nijo Castle, the Golden Pavilion, Heian Shrine, Ryoanji Temple and the
Imperial Palace.
Day 9 We have
time for exploring and shopping before returning to Tokyo in the afternoon. We
can see the Tokyo Tower on our last walking tour in Japan.
Day 10
Transfers to Narita Airport, by air or train, are included for connection to
onward flight home. Crossing the international date line our flight arrives home
the same day.
For groups seeking a less
structured and more affordable tour there are many Day-Tours that we can
arrange from Tokyo city. By arranging these tours we can shorten the tour
and introduce students to specific sights of interest!
These tours are great for teachers who are familiar with Japan.
