Day 1 We arrange flight from your gateway to London, England. Day 2 We transfer to our hotel on our own with a little time to explore our hotel vicinity. Day 3 Depart at 8:00 this morning to the west. Arrive shortly in Oxford where our guide will introduce us to college's for British Elite. See Bladon, Sir Winston Churchill's Burial Place and roll into Stratford-Upon -Avon. We explore the town at our own pace and stop for pictures at Anne Hathaway's Cottage. Our deluxe motor coach delivers us into the Cotswolds to savour the unique atmosphere of the Elizabethan market town of Broadway, before arriving in Bristol. (BD)
Day 4 We visit the elegant Georgian city of Bath, famous for its Roman relics. Continue to the Cheddar Gorge with its caves and limestone cliffs and then on to Glastonbury to learn of King Arthur and his Knights. Through Exmoor Park, home of the nomadic brigands called the Doones, we drive the spectacular North Devon Coast. Photography buffs will love the quaint fishing village of Lynmouth. Overnight in Barnstaple. (BD) Day 5 After breakfast we have a full day of West Country Sights. We stroll the narrow winding lanes of the popular seaside resort of St. Ives, then follow the rugged coast to take photos at Land's End before pausing to view St. Michael's Mount, rising precipitously out of the sea 230 feet. Skirt Bodmin Moor, made famous by the novelist Daphne du Maurier, on the way to Plymouth. (B) Day 6 We have a full day to explore Plymouth and its surroundings, an area rich in sea-faring tradition. Cross the river Tamar to visit the pretty shark-fishing village and former smuggler's port of Looe. We have a little free time in Plymouth's Elizabethan Barbican district. Climb the Mayflower Steps where the pilgrim fathers embarked in 1620 and hear about the exploits of historical figures such as Sir Walter Raleigh and Sir Francis Drake. We can arrange an optional cruise around Plymouth Sound this afternoon or enjoy time for souvenir hunting. (BD) Day 7 A rich agenda today. Traverse wild and romantic Dartmoor where we visit the picture-book village of Widecombe in the Moor, Exeter, the county town of Devonshire and Thomas Hardy's Wessex. See the intriguing prehistoric monument of Stonehenge. This sight is still steeped in mystery and it is now known that the area was worshipped by druids as long as 5,000 years ago. We'll try to solve the mystery of the stones. Stop in Salisbury with its vast and famous Cathedral which is a classic example of early English Gothic architecture. We overnight in classy Southsea, Portsmouth's seaside resort area. (BD) Day 8 We feature several stops on the last leg of our incredible adventure. See Arundel, dominated by its huge castle and home of the Duke of Norfolk. Stop in the town of Battle, site of William the Conqueror's decisive battle in 1066 that led to the conquering of Britain by the Norman's. At Canterbury we hear about the Black Prince and Thomas A. Becket. We return through the orchards of Kent and arrive in London early evening. We can arrange a cruise on the River Thames this evening for a small charge. (B) Day 9 Depart on our own to London Gatwick or Heathrow airport for the flight home or we can arrange a tour with another day in London to explore this great city's highlights.
