Day 1 We arrange the flight from your gateway to
Germany.
Day 2
We arrive in Munich, southern Germany and transfer on our own to our
hotel.
Day 3 We
depart by deluxe motorcoach to the southeast. Cross into Austria at Passau,
at the junction of 3 rivers (the tiny Liz, the Inn River and the mighty
Danube). We can arrange an optional cruise from Melk to Krems seeing the
best of the river. Continue by motorcoach along the Danube to Vienna,
capital of Austria where we stop for the night. (B)
Day 4 Our
colorful and experienced guide will bring to life the history and culture of
this great city. See the state Opera, Parliament, and the Town Hall.
Stop for a stroll in Heroe's Square to view the incomparable Hofburg and step
inside St. Stephen's Cathedral. This afternoon we can arrange an optional
tour to Schonbrunn Palace and the Prater with its Ferris Wheel. (B)
Day 5 One
of the highlights of the tour today. We visit the Vienna Woods and then
Mayerling, the sight of the hunting lodges where a world-shocking drama took
place. Learn the details of the tragic love story between Archduke Rudolf
and the young and lovely Maria Vetsera. We cross the Hungarian border and
arrive in Budapest for the night. (B)
Day 6 Buda
Castle dominates the twin cities of Buda and Pest, separated by the broad
ribbon of the Danube. Heroe's Square typifies teh modern capital, while
along the riverbank, we find the old inns and wine cellars. We'll see the
parliament building, Margaret Island, Fisherman's Bastion, the Royal Castle and
Mathias Coronation Church. (B)
Day 7 We
parallel the shores of Lake Balaton, the largest and shallowest lake in Europe
until we stop in pretty Tihany. The village is located on a peninsula that
juts into the lake as if it is going to touch the opposite shore. The
whole peninsula is a nature preserve famed for its beauty and great number of
birds. Continue west into Austria and its lovely scenery to Graz, the
garden city and capital of Styria. (B)
Day 8 We
have time to explore Graz, maybe see its Hauptplatz which is in the very heart
of the city. This is quite possibly Austria's most extensive
historic city center. Arrive in Salzburg where a local guide will join
us. We see the Domplatz, Horse Trough, Festival hall, and the charming
Getreidegasse, where Mozart was born. We have some free time to relax this
afternoon. (B)
Day 9
Truly great alpine scenery greets us today. We travel to Zell
Am See, hard to say but easy to appreciate. This is a beautiful resort
located on the western shore of the lake of the same name surrounded by
mountains such as the Hohe Tauern, Steinernes Meer and teh Grasberge
Mountains. Roll into Munich this afternoon where a colorful and expert
guide will show us some of the highlights of this great city. (B)
Day 10 Depart to the airport
on our own for the
flight home. (B)
