Spanish Discovery Tour
10 Day Tour to Spain
Including Madrid, Escorial, Avila and Seville

Spain is possibly the ideal country for edu-travel. It's warm, sunny, safe, and has a fascinating history and culture. It is filled with Roman and Moorish heritage which is very much a part of Spain. It was home to some of the world's great artists and boasts a wide variety of beautiful countryside as well as glorious monuments. Experience the Adventure that is Spain!

Day 1 Overnight flight to Madrid, Spain.
Day 2
Arrive in Madrid and transfer to our centrally located hotel.
Day 3
Madrid. Enjoy a walking tour of what this city has to offer. In the morning we will visit the Royal Palace. We won't have time to visit all 2,800 rooms but we will step into the most important of them. The afternoon is the best time to visit the astounding Prado Museum. Within it's walls are many of the world's great masterpieces. Works of Picasso, El Greco, Velazquez, Murillo and of course the extensive collection of the Master, Goya adorn it's walls. Time permitting we visit Parque del Retiro with it's rose garden and many fountains and statues. A carriage ride anyone? An optional evening tour can be arranged. "Madrid de Noche" includes a night tour of illuminated Madrid, dinner in a restaurant and a fiery Flamenco Show.
Day 4
Madrid. Depart Madrid this morning for Escorial and it's Pantheon and Monastery. Here are buried the cream of Spanish Aristocracy. 8 kilometers along the road to Segovia the "Valley of the Fallen" looms up on your left. A vast Basilica was hewn out of sheer granite. It took 19 years to construct and today it's the final resting place of 43,000 war dead including General Franco. Our great journey continues, bringing us to the golden-stoned market town of Segovia. Before us stands the huge granite Aqueduct built by the mighty Roman Empire over 2,000 years ago. Climb the 156 steps of the Alcazar for breathtaking views. Overnight in Segovia.
Day 5
Madrid. The morning is free to shop the Calle Real and Plaza Mayor. Later today, we visit Avila (Altitude 4,100'). Here we find well preserved ancient fortified walls that run 2.5 kilometers around the city. There are 88 towers. The Romanesque-Gothic Cathedral is well worth seeing.
Day 6
Seville. This morning we depart by train to Seville. Lying on the banks of the Guadalqivir River, Seville is considered one of Europe's most romantic and beautiful cities. Afternoon walking tour will familiarize us with the area and afford us a little time for shopping.
Day 7
We sample the charms of Seville. See La Giralda, and visit the largest Gothic Cathedral anywhere. Seville's magnificent Cathedral was a hundred years in construction. You will never forget it. Later visit nearby Italica, birthplace of two Roman Emperors (Trajan and Hadrian). Admire the ampitheater, the baths, ruins of Roman houses and splendid mosaics in the Museum.
Day 8
Seville. Depart for Cordoba by motor coach or train, where we see the Aljama Mosque, built in 987 AD by the Moors. Shop nearby and then visit the Jewish Quarter. Our journey continues as we depart for Granada. Granada, built in the shadows of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, was the last stronghold of the Moors. Here, they created an imposing monument to Moorish Culture. The Pink-Gold Palace of Alhambra is beautiful beyond belief. Together with the Generalife Gardens (summer palace of rich and powerful Caliphs) they stand as a jewel of mankind. The walls of Alhambra have seen the sly treachery of murderous plotters and heard the laughter and song of many the Caliphs Harems. Listen to the stories our guide tells. Return to Seville.
Day 9
We take the train to the port of Algeciras and then board the ferry to Tangier, Morocco for a day of shopping and exploring. Alternatively, visit the caves of the Rock of Gibraltar, or venture South to the Costa Del Sol to spend the day at the beach, splashing in the azure waters of the Mediterranean. Your Choice.
Day 10
Transfer to airport and bid Adios to our new-found friends in Spain.

Please call for a customized program and prices.
